ARCH & ORCHID HOTEL - COTAI, CHINA - 2007
Between the island of Macao and Cotai, in south China a giant landfill was created to receive a new urban grid of hotels and casinos. Framed by the existing airport, added a decade before at north in a landfill facing China’s mainland and the arrival at the sea of the Pearl River, and at east Hong Kong. The site is the last plot at the end of the new central avenue, facing the stone hill and natural water pond that was once the shore of Cotai Island, and at north a grand round-oval existing building, connecting to the airport platform. This relation between the existent reality and the new projected one, with axial, natural and built components are the grammar for the composition of the project.
