The composition of islands convoques matter to a state of ecstasy and upheaval. An Acropolis of molting stone over an Athens of oceanic water.
This house for a family with five kids is at the strip of dark basalt stone that limits the lush green of St. Michael Island and the Atlantic ocean, in front of praia do Pópulo's vast tapestry of dark sand.

The first settlers disembarked and found a Centaur and Minotaur toasting, lying on the beach with the table and glasses and bottles spilled from behind, between the rocks and the sand.
Poseidon watched intently from the water, cold, distant, the grandson and the horse-man.
Ariadne and Theseus on the mountain above, behind a waterfall, smiled distractedly in their various chores. One reading comments in a newspaper protected by the cool and waving light through the water, another throwing paper planes down the mountain from the pages of Milton's Paradise Lost.
The inhabitants felt the smell of happiness ingrained in the cliffs and craters of the tumultuous island.

An heterodox meshing of semiotics, science and design was first instilled by Tomás Maldonado in his tenure at the mythical Ulm School of Design in the 50' and 60's and then Politécnico di Milano in Environmental Design. The role of the intellectual is to awaken and reveal the collective conscience.
